A NEW ADDITION TO THE TOOLBOX! Our collection of A NEW ADDITION TO THE TOOLBOX!

Our collection of democratic community engagement tools has been expanded with arki_map! 📍

arki_map is an interactive map which allows anyone to easily get an overview of the data collected in an engagement process. When we collect ideas, wishes and dreams in an engagement process we strive to put forward the tendencies in the bigger picture but it is equally important to listen to every single comment from each individual who has contributed.

arki_lap enables transparency in the process as it allows citizens and stakeholders to locate themselves within their city and find their contributions. It enables them to see their comments in connection with the bigger picture of inputs from their local community.

arki_map offers extra layers of information that can be added to the map to show how citizens' inputs intertwine with changes in the urban environment.

The ‘arki_bot’ is now the only one working Fridays after the implementation of the 4-days workweek at the arki_lab offices in 2023 - giving us more time to e.g. shovel snow at home ☃️

For the past 33 years the Danish workweek has been 37 hours which is close to half of what it was in the beginning of the 20th century with 13 adjustments gradually changing the norm to where we are today.

These days the political line in Denmark raises debates as governmental decisions seem to be conflicting with an increasing tendency of more people wanting to reevaluate their worklife balance. New studies show that more people wish to arrange their worklife in new ways both by working less and more flexibly to have more time for ‘the good life’. Scientists point to the need of working from home that many people experienced during Covid lock downs as a catalyst towards the wish for a different work-life balance.

At arki_lab we gradually started incorporating a 4 days workweek throughout 2022 and as we have now entered 2023 we have started an official experiment where all employees has Fridays of. We find that the change in mentality towards once again reevaluating the work-life balance is positive on both a national and arki_lab office level. For us, it provides proper time to recover, be creative and active and have quality time with friends and family before returning back to a more focused workweek. Less worktime doesn’t mean a lower quality of our work - quite the opposite in our own experience.

This post was inspired by the two (danish) articles:

FROM TRADITIONAL HEARING TO 150 PERSON CREATIVE WO FROM TRADITIONAL HEARING TO 150 PERSON CREATIVE WORKSHOP

150 locals showed up for a creative arki_nopoly session this weekend when we went to Sweden. Some came expecting more of a traditional hearing, and were a bit skeptical to find the layout of their area as an arki_nopoly game instead. But during the workshop they were pleasantly surprised by the method as they gained new perspectives and discovered not only their own but many other people’s opinions as well.

We facilitated two workshops in Ystads kommun, to engage the people of the area in the future strategy of their two towns Köpingebro and Nybrostrand.

The interest for the workshop was overwhelming, and 150+ people participated, talked, drew and discussed their visions.

The locals of Köpingebro and Nybrostrand, as well as local politicians and people from Ystad municipality, played 1 hour of arki_nopoly and gathered around 1000 inputs. These will be the base of the future strategic plan for the area, giving the municipal plans a solid foundation to build upon. The turn-up this Saturday showcased a great strength presented by the local community and their expert knowledge about their area’s challenges and potentials!

✨⌛️ arki_lab new years countdown! ⌛️✨ ✨⌛️ arki_lab new years countdown! ⌛️✨

As we have arrived at the final day of 2022, we take a moment to stop and listen to all the young people who have been in our feed the last couple of weeks. A big thank you to all of them! They all serve as a reminder to let the design process of our cities be transparent and inclusive by listening to all kinds of voices - also those who are redeemed young and inexperienced. Often it will provide a new perspective to our everyday way of life.

Thank you for tuning in on our new years countdown.
Here’s to 2023 and to continue designing cities with people!
