The Parramatta Outer Ring Road (PORR) is an existing network of roads that form a key transport network around the Parramatta Central Business District (CBD), deviating through traffic away from the city center. The key vision objectives of the PORR are to reduce traffic incursion into and enable place improvements within the Parramatta city center.

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is developing a Strategic Corridor Plan for the PORR in order to facilitate faster, more reliable, and safer travel for both the community and road users whilst also contributing to the place-based qualities of its surroundings to strengthen the position of the city of Parramatta in the region.

In December 2020 arki_lab, in collaboration with TfNSW held a workshop with stakeholders from local government and key state government agencies. The stakeholder workshop was held online and utilized arki_nopoly, an urban planning board game tool that enables planners, stakeholders, and citizens to collaborate and learn from one another. The arki_nopoly game gives participants a common platform from which to propose innovative solutions to solving complex urban problems, bridging the gap between disciplines, organizations, and the community.

At the workshop the stakeholders reviewed the PORR which was divided into six segments and attendees were engaged in a process of: Identifying issues, Proposing solutions, and Defining actions. The findings from the workshop were captured in a report completed by arki_lab and form a record of the issues, opportunities and potential solutions that were identified by stakeholders on the day. TfNSW has then used this information to further investigate and develop strategic options that aim to enhance both movement and place values relevant to the PORR.
