We are excited to announce the great news that we have won the competition to develop a park in Høje-Taastrup, which is part of the new vision for the neighbourhood, Gadehavekvarteret/Gregersens. We’re looking forward to continue our fruitful collaboration with the Municipality of Høje-Taastrup, in Gadehavekvarteret, that started when we worked on a citizen involvement project designing an outdoor workshop at a local school.

From citizen involvement to design
We, at arki_lab, are thrilled to be a part of the new park development with the multidisciplinary team, BOGL Landscape Architects and Atkins Engineers. Our role in the project will be to facilitate the citizen involvement processes, gather user data and transform it into specific designs in close collaboration with BOGL Landscape. In that way, we’ll be acting as the link to ensure that the local ideas are translated into the final design. Another critical task is also to follow up on the previous engagement process with the local community and include the key actors from the nearby housing associations, educational institutions, cultural networks and local sports clubs. These key members will help prioritise the selected areas the citizens will take an active part in shaping, therefore we make it a priority to meet many different user groups in the area. A strong vision for the park is to create attractive spaces for all the different users of nearby educational institutions in order to establish the park as a communal space.

Connections and safety in social housing areas
The park will bring new bicycle- and pedestrian routes as well as meeting spots for the local community and educational institutions. Furthermore, the proposal contains the design of safe area for kids to play, learn how to bike etc., done in collaboration with the Danish Cyclist´ Federation. Climate adaptation and sustainability are high priorities, with the final design focusing on creating new green areas with different types of ecological and climate solutions.

The design will reflect the social diversity of the area and improve safety in the neighbourhood by implementing different strategies. Through multifunctionality, people are encouraged to stay and engage with one another. Lighting will serve as an atmospheric element and selected areas will be developed into recreational spaces.

This week we had an site inspection, facilitated by the Municipality of Høje-Taastrup, together with representatives from BOGL and Atkins. It was great to see the area again, but with a fresh set of eyes and a new project in mind. We are looking forward to collaborating with the other team members, creating citizen involvement processes and designing the best solutions for the inhabitants in order to help them feel safe, enhance the daily quality of life and engage actively in their community.
